SOFTWARE PUBLISHERS MOVE TO PROTECT THEIR CUSTOMERS
WITH LINKSCANNER SAFE SURFING TECHNOLOGY
Avanquest and IS3 Are First to License LinkScanner Software Development Kit
October 3, 2007 – Atlanta, GA – Exploit Prevention Labs (http://www.explabs.com), a leading provider of safe surfing software, today announced the first licensing agreements for the company’s LinkScanner Software Development Kit, which enables software developers to integrate LinkScanner’s acclaimed protection against exploits, phishing and other social engineering attacks into their product lines. These two deals will extend LinkScanner’s anti-exploit protection to an estimated 1 million additional users by the end of 2007.
Two software companies are already working to incorporate the LinkScanner code in their products: Avanquest, a global publisher of communications, productivity and utility software for consumers and small business, and IS3, publisher of the StopZilla anti-spyware program.
“We’re delighted to be able to offer LinkScanner’s safe surfing protection to our users,” said Brad Crystal, vice president of marketing at Avanquest. “Our customers’ security online is an important issue for us, and we believe that adding the LinkScanner technology to our offerings will be of significant benefit.”
Exploit Prevention Labs released the industry’s first safe surfing application in May 2006 to provide reliable, real-time protection against zero-day exploits. Since then, the market for safe surfing software has expanded dramatically as cybercriminals, motivated by profit, step up their attacks against consumers and businesses with more sophisticated, dynamic, and hard-to-track methods. Other security vendors have since joined the battle but none is yet able to provide the real-time, granular protection of LinkScanner.
“Today’s web threats are dynamic, transient, and impossible to block using traditional security tools like firewalls and anti-malware,” said Chris Weltzien, president and COO of Exploit Prevention Labs. “By partnering with complementary software developers, we are able to extend the reach of LinkScanner protection to Internet users at a much faster rate than if we were to do everything by ourselves. These two agreements alone will deliver exploit protection to a million users in the next twelve months.”
LinkScanner SDK makes it easy for developers to incorporate safe surfing protection into their Windows products:
- Lightweight technology requires minimal RAM and CPU resources
- Real-time scanning of individual web pages for known exploits, phishing, and other social engineering attacks using Exploit Prevention Labs’ exploit detections
- Real-time checking of an IP address, URL or domain against Exploit Prevention Labs’ proprietary database of malicious sites
- Near real-time update of malsite detection databases online or via a predetermined web site.
The LinkScanner SDK code can be implemented as a standard DLL (for C and C++ environments) or as a COM object (for VB and .NET environments).

Exploit Prevention Labs provides a complete family of safe surfing software to protect Internet Explorer and Firefox users against malicious web sites, phishing, social engineering and other web-based exploits.
The LinkScanner family of safe surfing products includes LinkScanner Pro™, LinkScanner Lite™, and LinkScanner Online, as well as the LinkScanner SDK.
LinkScanner Pro™ (free 15-day evaluation: http://explabs.com/products/lspro_trial.asp), a $29.95 application, provides real-time, automatic protection against malicious web sites, drive-by downloads and other crimeware exploits. All web pages are inspected at the time of access, regardless of whether the user types in the address directly or clicks on a hyperlink in Google, MSN, and Yahoo search results or any other web page.
LinkScanner Lite (free download at http://explabs.com/products/lslite.asp) is a free application that provides real-time scanning of Google, MSN and Yahoo search results for web-based threats, as well as on-demand scanning of individual links.
LinkScanner Pro and LinkScanner Lite run under Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista.
LinkScanner Online, available at http://linkscanner.explabs.com, is a free real-time online URL scanning service that lets users know whether any individual site they intend to visit has been poisoned by an exploit distribution network. LinkScanner Online supports all major web browsers and is freely available for incorporation into third-party websites. Interested webmasters can request the code through Exploit Prevention Labs’ website at http://www.explabs.com/LinkScanner/MyLinkScanner/.
About Exploit Prevention Labs
Founded by information security veterans Bob Bales and Roger Thompson in 2005, Exploit Prevention Labs develops the LinkScanner family of safe surfing software and services. LinkScanner Pro, LinkScanner Lite and LinkScanner Online provide patent-pending protection against malicious web sites and web-based exploits during the critical risk window between the announcement of a security vulnerability and the provision of a patch by the vendor. LinkScanner SDK enables third party vendors to incorporate Exploit Prevention Labs’ technology in their own Internet-facing applications and services.
